Staggering news from a recent honey briefing: levels of commercial adulteration worldwide are so extreme that the international honey competition has been abandoned! That’s like cancelling those wine, cheese or other opportunities to discover the best in the world.
It seems that “honey” is too often being blended with commercial sugar syrups, other additives and artificially “dried” rather than evaporated by the beating of thousands of bee wings.
There’s nothing wrong with the cheap, imported, blended “honey” if you want to sweeten that cup of fruit tea or cook with it.
But, for that special slice of toast, dripping with the delicious authentic stuff we remember, hunt out your local beekeepers and be ready to cough up a realistic price for all their and the bees’ hard work!
