Mystery clinks.

I’ve been hearing it all weekend.   In a distant room, the sounds of small objects dropping on to a table top.   Not just one or two but several repeated, intermittent distinctive clinks over an hour or so.   Very eerie!

The cause: the bee decorations for the sous-chef’s big birthday cake weren’t surviving the heat.   Their design was probably rather optimistic: little plastic insects that had to be attached with individual blobs of glue on fine straws.   Simply not enough surface connection to take the weight.   I tried again on wider supports but the glue had lost its tackiness.

Decorations abandoned: too high a risk that a guest would crack a tooth or,  even worse, swallow one if the bees got mixed up in the icing.   Now on a desperate hunt for something different, soonest!
