The super-simple fruit cake recipe won first prize in the cake competition at the Wales and West Wine, Beer and Food competition. A friend of many years and nationally renowned wine and beer maker, Peter, used a 50-year old sweet wine in my humble recipe to wow the judges. He has enough of his own excellent wine to sacrifice some for this simple cake and was even more thrilled to be the sole male entry in the class. Come on, girls, we can’t have chaps doing better than us!
New blind baking: I’m delighted to be supporting the National Talking Newspaper Federation with a series of audio recordings to share across the country. I’ve also been trying to give some ideas to a young Deaf-blind student who wants to embark on a cooking career. Her college is giving her super support and there are so many avenues ahead for her.
