It’s not just the obvious audience of us visually impaired people who need information in different ways. Anyone with a “print/digital disability” needs it too.
So much of how life operates now depends on being able to find and use on-line information. We need to understand those changes and then how to manage them. Just imagine when all GP appointments are on-line. I need the news that it’s happening and the information about the workarounds.
Last weekend’s national Talking News Federation conference was the perfect chance for the experts to share ideas and new ways of helping us all. Thank goodness for all those wonderful volunteers who give up their time and effort to make a real difference to our lives. I was privileged to award the Innovation prize (in the form of one of my pewter cakes) to the Talking News group, harnessing audio technology to deliver what we need.
And more thanks are due: to the wonderful stranger who donated the two biscuits each to sustain the sous-chef and I on a freezing train without any access to food or drink for an 8-hour journey. Do the rail lines realise the degree of risk they are creating for passengers?
