The fourth R.

We all remember the first three: Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic.  But isn’t there another that is fundamental to life success: Rapport.

Over many years, I’ve met many people with all the grades and qualifications that mark their intellect but still they don’t achieve true success.

Being able to get on with other people: know when to listen or speak, when to lead or follow, when to  act or not.  How good are our schools, colleges and universities  at fostering such interpersonal skills, empathy and sensitivity?  I bet that OFQUAL doesn’t award any marks for Rapport and leaves pupils and students worse off.

Yet, in these times of social media/isolation, isn’t this the vital R that empowers our young people to real success?  Answers  on a postcard …
